Here is part two of our series on The Benefits of CBD.  For part two we will talk about how CBD helps our stomach. Did you know that you can use CBD to help with Gastrointestinal symptoms? Most of us did not know that? We know that CBD helps our brains and is great for pain management now let’s learn how CBD can help our stomachs.

The Benefits of CBD on the Stomach

CBD helps the stomach by being the following:

Antiemetic effects of CBD

An antiemetic is a drug that is effective against vomiting and nausea. They are also used to treat motion sickness. A study conducted in 2011 found that CBD manipulates our endocannabinoid system to regulate nausea and vomiting. CBD does this by pushing our endocannabinoid system to produce an enzyme called Anandamide.

Anandamide is a neurotransmitter that is produced in the brain that binds to the CB-1 receptors in our brain. It makes us happy and full of bliss. Researchers found a gut-calming result from increased anandamide in the system.

Studies also suggest that CBD indirectly activates a unique compound known as 5-hydroxytryptamine-1A (5-HT1A). The activation of this monoamine neurotransmitter significantly reduces the sensation of nausea.

How does CBD help with appetite control?

It’s common knowledge that THC can give one the munchies. CBD can help with your appetite as well.

A study published in the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry found that CBD had three major effects on fat stores. First CBD stimulated genes and proteins involved in augmenting the breakdown of fat.

Second, the study found CBD to help increase the number and activity of mitochondria, subsequently improving the body’s ability to burn energy. Mitochondria is a membrane-bound organelle found in eukaryotic cells in our body. Its primary function is to generate energy.

Finally, the study showed that CBD decreased the expression of specific proteins involved in creating new fat cells in the body.

Based on these results, the authors of the study (researchers from the Department of Biotechnology at Daegu University, Korea) concluded that CBD can help convert white fat into beneficial brown fat.

While Cannabidiol (CBD) suppresses nausea and vomiting within a limited dose range, we still have a long way to go for us to learn more about the benefits of CBD on our stomachs. For more studies to be done our politicians need to be pushed to fully legalize Cannabis.
